I am a wife and mother, my first and most important job. I am blessed with a loving and supportive husband and two wonderful and witty sons.
Professionally, I have chosen two satisfying careers as a teacher and an author. I have 15 years of classroom experience and currently teach sixth grade. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me. As an educator and author, I've combined my teaching experience and writing skills to create over 30 literature-based teachers' guides.
My first children's book, H is for Hawkeye: An Iowa Alphabet expresses my love of Iowa and of writing. The front cover and page G captures my heart. My parent's farm is depicted on the front cover and the beautiful Grotto of Redemption, representing letter G, is located in my childhood home of West Bend, Iowa.
My second release, Numbers in a Row: An Iowa Number Book continues to showcase Iowa's history, people, places, agriculture and industry. With fond memories of my high school athletic days, this companion book to the alphabet book, allowed me to share part of Iowa girls' six-on-six basketball history. As a proud graduate of Loras College, my fondness and appreciation for Dubuque is expressed on the beautifully illustrated page of 8 paddlefish swimming at the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium. My pleasure of running is also found on the final page of 100 marathon runners. Completing the Marathon-to-Marathon with my sister, Janet, confirmed the fact that Iowa does offer fun, friendly, fast and flat marathon courses!
I am full of curiosity and a life-long learner. I love what I do! As a child, I discovered the magic and power of books. As an adult, this enchantment and wonder continues to be revealed by connecting children to books through my teaching and writing.
